Stop VPN and proxy abuse in your affiliate program
Dishonest affiliates use VPN and proxy services to mask their true locations, bypass geo-restrictions, and generate fake conversions that appear to come from your target markets.

VPN and proxy abuse hides traffic origins and bypasses geo-restrictions
Many affiliate programs operate with geo-specific commission structures, restricting payouts to traffic from target countries where the product is available. VPN and proxy abuse allows dishonest publishers to route their traffic through exit nodes in approved geographies, making click farm operations in low-cost countries appear to originate from the UK, US, Germany, or Australia. Your program pays premium CPA or CPL rates for traffic that never came from your intended market.
Beyond geo-masking, VPN and proxy use is a strong signal of intent to deceive. Legitimate affiliate publishers do not route their audience traffic through VPN services. When Tapper detects VPN or datacenter proxy IP addresses in your affiliate click stream, it indicates that the traffic origin is being deliberately masked, a practice that is almost always associated with invalid activity. Tapper's VPN detection covers commercial VPN services, datacenter proxies, residential proxies, and Tor exit nodes.
How Tapper stops vpn and proxy abuse on Affiliate
Three steps from connection to clean data, no engineering required.
01
Connect to your affiliate tracking platform
Tapper integrates with your affiliate network or tracking setup and immediately analyzes the IP and connection characteristics of every incoming click.
02
VPN and proxy traffic identified and flagged
Tapper cross-references each click's IP address against a continuously updated database of commercial VPN ranges, datacenter proxies, residential proxy networks, and Tor exit nodes, flagging masked traffic before it reaches your conversion funnel.
03
Geo-restriction enforcement and commission protection
Clicks from VPN or proxy sources are excluded from commission-eligible traffic, enforcing your program's geo-restrictions and preventing payouts for traffic that does not originate from your target markets.

“When we take low-quality traffic out of the funnel before it reaches the algorithm, the campaign optimizes against cleaner signals and the efficiency comes through quickly. For AMA Nissan, that was a 40% lift in conversion rate and a lower CPA on Google, with nothing else in the setup changing. That is the kind of result we want to offer clients as a matter of course.”

Frequently asked questions
In rare cases, a publisher's individual users may be VPN users for personal privacy reasons. Tapper distinguishes between isolated VPN users within a publisher's genuine traffic and systematic routing of an entire traffic stream through VPN or proxy services. The latter is a strong invalid traffic signal; the former can be reviewed and managed through program-level settings.
If your program pays higher commissions for UK or US traffic, dishonest publishers can use VPN exit nodes in those countries to misrepresent the true origin of their traffic. You pay premium rates for clicks generated in countries where your product may not even be available, or from audiences with no genuine purchase intent for your market.
Tapper's VPN filtering is configurable. By default, traffic from known VPN and proxy ranges is flagged for review rather than automatically blocked, allowing you to set rules appropriate to your program. For geo-restricted programs where VPN traffic is categorically ineligible for commission, automatic exclusion can be enabled.
