Click farm fraud on mobile app install campaigns
Click farms use warehouses of real devices with human or scripted operators to generate installs that defeat basic fraud detection. Tapper identifies device farm clusters and removes their installs before they corrupt your CPI data and UA budget.

Device farms defeat device-signal fraud detection with real hardware
Click farms targeting mobile app install campaigns are a uniquely difficult fraud problem because they use genuine physical devices, real operating systems, and real cellular or Wi-Fi connections. Unlike bots that simulate device signals in software, device farm operators run your app on actual smartphones in a warehouse environment, generating installs that produce all the hardware-level signals a fraud detection system based on device verification expects to see. Standard MMP fraud filters that rely on device ID blacklisting or OS signal verification cannot catch device farm installs because those signals are real.
The key tell is cluster behaviour. Device farms contain many devices operating in the same environment: sharing network infrastructure, cycling through reset advertising IDs in predictable patterns, generating sessions with identical or near-identical usage fingerprints, and installing apps at velocities that exceed what organic discovery would produce. Tapper analyses install traffic at the cluster level, identifying groups of devices that share environmental signals inconsistent with independent organic users, and removes their installs from your attribution regardless of whether individual device signals appear clean.
How Tapper stops click farms on Mobile app install
Three steps from connection to clean campaign data, no engineering required.
01
Connect Tapper to your MMP and networks
Tapper integrates with AppsFlyer, Adjust, Kochava, Singular, and Branch, plus your ad network accounts, monitoring install events and device signals across your full UA stack.
02
Device cluster analysis identifies farm activity
Tapper analyses network environment, device ID cycling patterns, session behaviour, and geographic clustering to identify groups of devices operating as a farm rather than as genuine independent users.
03
Farm installs excluded before CPI is charged
Device farm installs are flagged and removed from your attribution before they're counted toward your cost-per-install. Your CPI reflects only genuine user acquisitions.

“Tapper played a key role in improving the efficiency of Du's performance marketing activity by addressing traffic quality issues within campaigns. Following implementation, Du achieved a 13% reduction in CPA and an 8.6% increase in order rate, demonstrating a clear improvement in conversion quality and overall campaign effectiveness.”

Joseph Elbcherrawy
Client Leadership Director, Mindshare, a WPP Media Brand

“During our Tapper trial for INFINITI, we uncovered low-quality traffic that wasn't visible inside the platforms. Removing it delivered a 14% uplift in conversions and an 11.4% reduction in CPA - a meaningful efficiency gain for INFINITI's 2026 growth plans.”
David Barnes
Data & Technology Lead, Omnicom Group

“With Tapper's protection we were able to identify and block invalid clicks in real time. The impact was immediate as our cost per acquisition dropped by 30% and ROAS improved significantly. More importantly, Tapper gives us the confidence that our campaigns are reaching genuine customers, which makes it truly invaluable.”

Dimitris Bakas
Senior Performance Marketing, Public Group

“We started using Tapper to get better visibility on where our clicks were coming from, and ended up cutting wasted spend by over 12%. The performance uplift was clear, and for the first time, we could trust the numbers we were seeing. It's a total game-changer for campaign integrity.”

Stuart Parkin
Director of Operations, Regit
“Tapper's blocking technology purifies our paid media traffic which roughly equates to a 36x return against its subscription costs. It's certainly one of the easiest-to-implement tools in our entire marketing stack.”

Reno Mindemann
Head of Growth, Kama Capital

“We've been using Tapper for over a year now, and it has become a core part of how we run paid media. Invalid traffic was always something we knew existed but couldn't really act on. Tapper changed that. We're now saving up to $50K per year, and on PureSquare specifically, we saw around a 20% decrease in CPA. Based on these results, we decided to roll it out across other ventures under Disrupt as well.”

Frequently asked questions
Everything about click farms on Mobile App app install.
Standard MMP fraud filters focus on device signal verification: checking that device IDs are real, that OS signals match, and that CTIT falls within acceptable ranges. Device farms use actual devices with genuine signals, so they pass these checks. Detection requires analysing behaviour at the cluster level and examining environmental signals that reveal the shared infrastructure behind the individual devices.
Device farm activity is most common on incentivised ad networks, smaller regional networks with weaker publisher vetting, and networks operating in markets with lower labour costs and higher fraud operation density. Tapper provides per-network fraud rate breakdowns so you can identify which sources carry the highest device farm exposure in your campaigns.
Tapper's dashboard provides detailed evidence for each flagged install cluster, including device signal analysis, timing data, and environmental fingerprints. This documentation supports disputes with ad networks and, in some cases, enables clawback of fraudulent CPI charges already billed. Recovery depends on the network's dispute policy.
